A beautifully nice but messy rainy day

Most homestead videos are always showing things on clear sunny days, but without the rainy messy days nothing would grow and we would die. So a rainy day is really a beautiful day. This is what scares young folks especially women away, working 7days a week with no vacation many times in uncomfortable weather with messy conditions Remember your emergency supplies, The Ready Store ( best price guarantee) www.thereadystore.com And if you want to try to make a few bucks helping others prepare www.thereadystore.com

So how does one get a new crop of bees to move into a specific hive? And what if they don’t like the neighborhood?

this is one woman who isn’t scared away by the farming lifestyle. i would LOVE to live it again – grew up on a farm and later worked at a horse stable on a military post. stuck in a city now – can’t convince hubby to give up his tv and internet.

Hey Guy…I don’t want to say I envy you, but we all may have to get back to the farm the way things are going.

  5. dsarti1 says:

@crunchygranolastudio homesteads have internet and tv now

  6. crunchygranolastudio says:

@dsarti1 i know, but he would either a) never leave the city or if i could get him away from the city then b) never leave his internet/tv long enough to get any work done :( plus, the only way he knows how to do anything is to hire someone and he’s not interested in learning for himself – not conducive to a farm lifestyle.

I think Id try to make me a deal with some friends & neighbors to take care of my stuff once or twice a year and in return I would do the same for them, then if you need to go, you can just give them some notice and go.
    Think that would work?

    The bees look dead

  14. stormpoet76 says:

@BuckeyeSparky apairies sell 2-3 pounds of bees locally. you have to talk to the beekeepers personally, normally. your looking at 70-120 dollars(plus shipping) for a package like that which includes about 10 thousand bees and a queen, the container they come in and a can of sugar water syrup which feeds them.

Good vid Dave, keep em’ coming.

When I get home from work in the morning and it’s raining, it’s twice as hard to make myself go do chores — all I want to do is crawl under the covers!! Hey, I got my bees installed in their hives. So far, so good (I think). My bee smoker finally arrived, so now I can check on them better.

  17. Michigansnowpony says:

@ArmyKid1997 — When it’s cool(er) out, they tend to be less active. Also, there are always some causualties which occur during shipping.

  18. Michigansnowpony says:

@dsarti1 — Oh, I’d kill for 52 acres. . . . I grew up on 70 and even back then, that was considered a small farm. Now, it’s an estate! LOL

  19. Michigansnowpony says:

@stormpoet76 — I’ve found most bees actually see to come from Georgia. The local apiarists around here make “runs” to Georgia to buy their own bees and for re-sale to others.

  20. stormpoet76 says:

@Michigansnowpony Yeah locak apairies truck bees in from all over. Personally I think a person should only buy one package swarm of bees ever. Baring disasters and unforseen circumstances. A self sustaining Hive should bee able to Reproduce more then enough bees to fill out several beehives. The problem bees and beekeepers face is keeping an adaquate store of food and water in place for them in times of dearth.

  21. Michigansnowpony says:

@stormpoet76 — I agree, ideally, bee keepers would never need to buy more bees. But for someone like me, just starting out, the knowledge and expertise that seems to be needed to raise new queens and/or catch a swarm will take time to develop. And there’s so many problems that are plaguing our bees nowadays — even the most experienced bee keepers are having trouble keeping their hives alive it seems.

  22. erfrye says:

no it not the bees I keep bees, I dont have my farm yet but I dont think that is it . it is the 400lb that keep the woman away get down to 330 and you will be good as gold and maybe get off the c pap

  23. erfrye says:

how did the package of bees do so far this year?

  24. bubba2974 says:

me and mine want between 50 and 100 acres.

  25. fzfamilyhomestead says:

Those cold, wet, muddy days do make it such a chore! As you said those of us who love this lifestyle deal with it. On rainy days there’s always still pleanty to do indoors. I have been enjoying your videos this morning. I’ll be checking back again!
